Secrets of Level 7 Sellers:How I Sold $1,914,861.86 in Sales
I am a Lazada Singapore top online seller whom has sold close to 2 million dollars in sales. To tell you the truth, it did require some effort to become a level 7 online seller on the Lazada platform but as long as you follow these steps you can achieve this as well. In this article, I’ll share everything you need to know about how to sell on Lazada and why you should start selling in this marketplace.
Why Should You Be Going into eCommerce?
There are 2.05 billion digital buyers worldwide and it is expected to rise in the next few years. As a business owner, if you are not in online selling today, you are missing out on a lot of sales. If you are even remotely considering starting an eCommerce business, now is the time. Otherwise, when the wave is over, it will be way more challenging to get into the online business.
What is Lazada?
Lazada is an online marketplace that offers a wide array of products in categories such as electronics, sports equipment, fashion, groceries, and a lot more. The business model of Lazada is B2B2C (business to business to consumer) model which means merchants can directly sell their goods to their consumers through its platform. Lazada is available in six countries – Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Lazada and Shopee are NOT owned by the same company. Lazada is majority-owned by Alibaba Group, a Chinese multinational technology company that provides eCommerce, cloud computing, and digital financial services worldwide. The founder of Lazada is Maximilian Bittner backed by Rocket Internet in 2012. At present, Chun Li is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lazada Group. He is also the CEO of Lazada Indonesia.
How Does Lazada Make Money?
Lazada makes money by charging payment gateway and commission fees to its sellers. All merchants must settle the payment gateway fee which covers the cost of payment processing that is 2%. Meanwhile, the commission fee only applies to LazMall sellers and it ranges from 3-5% depending on the product category.
Why Should You Sell on Lazada?

How to Add Product on Lazada Store
Take note of the following things below to successfully sell your products.
Branding
Create your brand identity. This will help you build an impression on your customers. Be consistent with your branding and make sure that it represents your business well. You can construct a template for your products so that your posts are similar in aesthetic and to lessen your workload.
High-Quality Images and Videos of the Product
Your customers will instantly check your product photos and videos. They want to see the actual item clearly therefore as a seller, it is a must to provide high-quality images. In most instances, your suppliers already have photos of the products. Despite that, if the rights of the images aren’t shared with you, you may get into legal trouble. For this reason, it is better to take your own product photos. To take excellent photos, you will need a camera or smartphone, lighting, and a solid background.
To make it easier, you should use the following:
1. Photo Tent and Light Kit
2. Camera or Smartphone
3. Small Tripod
Lazada lets you upload up to 8 photos per product listing. Take photos in different angles that clearly show product features. Add a human element in your images by including people with different demographics such as age, gender, the race who are using the products. To improve your conversion rate, you can use the influence of public figures by letting them endorse your items and adding their testimonials on your photos or product thumbnails.
The following images are taken from different angles while highlighting the product features and adding a human element.
On the other hand, the images below are examples of people with different demographics (i.e., age, race, gender) using and promoting the product.
Product Copywriting
In writing descriptions for your product content, bear in mind that you should provide accurate information about the item while trying to convince your reader to buy it. Emphasize the benefits that they can obtain once they’ll purchase it. To improve your visibility in search results, add relevant keywords in your description. Use Google Keyword Planner in researching for your keywords. This will help you build a strong keyword list.
Below is an example that shows keyword ideas for ‘Gaming Headset’. Google Keyword Planner gives its average monthly searches, competition, and filters such as brand.

Submit Your Product for Seller Picks

How to Update Your Payment Details?
As you sign up for a seller account, Lazada would ask for your bank account details. This is to speed up the process of you getting paid. But if unexpected things happen and you need to update your payment details, don’t panic because it is easy to do. Simply follow the steps I provided below.

Statement Cut-Off
This refers to the cut-off day wherein all delivered orders from Monday to Sunday will be consolidated for payout. Statement cut off takes place every Sunday
Payment Release
This is the process wherein Lazada will release your payment to your bank account. However, it might take 3 to 4 additional working days for your bank to process your pay-out.
Payment Received by Seller
This is the stage wherein your payment is received and reflected in your bank accounts, usually after 4 working days after the payment is released.
How to Manage Returns?
When you receive a refund request from your buyer, you have 3 working days to decide whether to accept or reject this request. If you fail to respond within the given date, the system will auto-approve this request.

When you choose Refund only, that means that your buyer can request a refund even without returning your products to you.
When you choose Return & refund, that means your buyer needs to return the item first before you give the refund.
When you choose Reject, that means you are rejecting the request especially if the reason is damaged items and you have proof that you shipped out the product with no issue.

2. Poly Mailers

How to Book Pick-Up with Your Shipping Partner?
To schedule a pick-up with your courier service, check your type of shipment. Log in to your Seller Center account and go to My Account> Profile>Shipping Provider.
When it’s already set for Pick-up, then a pick-up will automatically be scheduled once your order has been updated into Ready-To-Ship status. Seamlessly track your orders through Ninja Van’s NinjaChat and J&T Express’ J&T Portal. However, if your type of shipment is set to Drop-off and you need to request a pick-up, you may do so via NinjaChat (only when your Shipping Provider is Ninja Van).
Learn more about NinjaChat here and check J&T Portal’s Guide in this article.
For further assistance, you can use this form (make sure you are logged in as a Seller). Select Transport as your Online Inquiry and proceed to add other needed information as shown below.
It’s pretty much easy to schedule a pick-up with your Shipping Provider as long as you follow the procedure and provide accurate details throughout.
Handover Guide
Make sure to provide your accurate address and contact number so that the 3rd-Party Logistics (3PL) of Lazada can easily contact you to pick up the parcels. The 3PL partners of Lazada are J&T Express, Ninja Van, CJ Logistics, and Speedpost. You should only set RTS or Ready-To-Ship status once you are ready to hand over the packages. Do not set it too early especially if you haven’t prepared the items as this may result in missed or partial pickups. Ensure scanning of parcels before handing these over to 3PL partners. Lastly, agree with the 3PL staff to scan and count the parcels and only sign off when the volume tallies.
Tips to Improve Ship-On-Time
Ship-On-Time (SOT) is the assessment of the seller’s capability to send out orders within the agreed service level timeline. It is measured from Pending Status to Transit-To-Ship or Shipped status. All sellers are expected to have a good SOT performance in order to satisfy their buyers and increase their conversion rate.
These are tips to help you with your SOT performance.
Manage Your Stocks
Regularly monitor your items to avoid unexpected stockouts that may lead to the cancellation of orders or delays in shipping. Keeping track of your products will also keep you from overstocking and obsolescence. Analyze sales trends to help you prepare for seasonal events or campaigns.
Update Order Status
Only set Ready-To-Ship status once you’re done packing. Update it before handing it over to the courier. Avoid missed and partial pickups.
Pre-Pack Orders
Make sure that you have enough stock so that you can pre-pack your best-selling items. This lessens your preparation time and allows you to ship the items on time. You’ll have satisfied, happy, and returning customers giving you good ratings in no time.
How to Track Your Click-Through Rate, Conversion Rate, and Success of Marketing Campaigns?
Click-Through Rate (CTR)
Click-Through Rate (CTR) is the portion of people who clicked your ad. Your Click-Through Rate must not be less than 5% to be considered good since anything below that percentage only tells that few people find your ad interesting. However, there are a few factors to be considered such as your keywords and the lack of CTA or call-to-action. To know your CTR, follow this simple formula:
CTR = (Total Number of Clicks / Total Number of Impressions) x 100
The total number of impressions is the complete count of the audience your ad had. For instance, there are 4 out of 40 people who clicked your ad, then your CTR is 10%. Always strive to reach a 10% CTR as this shows that your ad is convincing and many are engaged. This will actually result in a high Conversion Rate and sales.
Increase Your CTR
Add Keywords
Keywords that are related to your product must be included in the product title and description. Do Keyword Research in order to effectively reach your target audience. Keep in mind that your customers will read it, that’s why avoid keyword stuffing and adding irrelevant information.
Create Appealing Product Thumbnail
Showcase your product while being creative. Highlight its features and use photos taken from different angles. This makes it possible for the customers to see the item as though in real life and manage their expectations.
Conversion Rate (CVR)
Conversion Rate (CVR) is the percentage of people that completed a transaction after clicking an ad or link. Understanding your conversion rate helps you discern the efficacy of your campaign. Compute your CVR using this formula:
CVR = (Total Number of Conversions / Total Number of Clicks) x 100
If the total number of people who clicked on your ad is 50 and 4 of them “converted” or made a transaction, your CVR is 8%. A good Conversion Rate is 5% above, anything less than that simply means that your item is not selling well. Aim for a 10% Conversion Rate to gain higher profits. A high CVR proves that you’re making money out of your ads.
How to Boost Your Conversion Rate (CVR)?
Provide Clear Images
It’s necessary to use high-quality photos for your buyers since you are selling your products. Upload images in different angles so that they can have an idea of what it actually looks like. Highlight its features as much as possible.
Accurate Product Title, Description, and Answers to Common Inquiries
Make sure that the details are correct. Emphasize the benefits of using your item and use relevant keywords without stuffing them in. You can also provide answers to frequently asked questions in your description to make it easier for your customers to know other details without having to contact you.
Reply to Messages
Responding to queries is important because customers would want to know more about the product or business. Improve your Seller Response Rate by checking in your inbox regularly and replying to messages as quickly as possible.
Review Your Business
How often do you review your business? Do you have a review plan? It is easy to take for granted how much your business has grown and how much it has changed over time. However, it is essential to take some time to review your business to ensure that you are still in the right direction and get new ideas on how you can improve even more.
In this section, I am going to share with you the things you need to accurately review your business.
Product Sellability
The first thing you need to look at when reviewing your business is your product sellability. It is one of the most important factors in determining whether a product will be sold successfully in the market. The easiest way to think about it is to consider this question: “How many units of products will a customer be willing to buy at a given price point within a period of time?”
Minimum Order Quantity
Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) refers to the minimum or the lowest limit quantity of a product that a seller must purchase from the supplier to produce a product or service. If you sell your products online, you need a certain level of demand before you can place an order with your manufacturer. The smaller the MOQ, the higher the risk that an order will be unfilled or your manufacturer will cancel your order due to lack of demand. To avoid this, you need to determine your MOQ so that you would only get the right amount of items you need for your business to minimize the risk of running out of stock or overstocking.
Sales Velocity
The Sales Velocity is a single number that represents the total value of sales that your business is achieving in a given time period. It is a critical metric that can help you determine if your business is growing and thriving or if it is stagnating and becoming a drag on your profits. You can use your Sales Velocity to track your performance, compare growth rates, and productivity between different teams, and measure the effectiveness of your sales and marketing initiatives. This is particularly important in an eCommerce business since it helps the business owners forecast future sales revenue. Having a good sales velocity measure helps you determine what drives your sales and gives you an idea of when to expand your business to new markets.
To compute your Sales Velocity, use this formula:
Storage/Warehouse
With eCommerce growing at a rapid pace, it is now more important than ever to understand the importance of physical storage. In case you haven’t realized it yet, your warehouse has a great impact on your business. It is because this is where you are going to store, pack, and ship out your items for delivery to your customers. Over time, you will need bigger storage as your business grows. It can be a single big room, a cluster of buildings, or even a giant facility just as long as space is enough for all your items. As you review your business, you need to also look at the location of your warehouse. It should have easy access to roads and power. You should also keep the place clean and organized to maximize every space of your storage.
Product Quality
Product Quality is one of those buzzwords that you’ve heard plenty of times. You can’t deny that quality is crucial to any business. As a seller, it is your responsibility to provide quality products to your buyer. With all the competition in the market, you can’t afford to fall behind in quality.
Product Return Rate
Good products should sell well but if you are getting a high Product Return Rate, your product may not be up to the mark. The implications of this are more than just financial. You are increasing the risk of losing your customers’ trust which is a big deal when it comes to eCommerce since they can only rely on the photos and descriptions of your products. When your customer returns your items, you can decide to offer a replacement or refund the money. But when you have a high Product Return Rate, you need to look at what went wrong to avoid similar problems in the future.
Here are the things you need to bear in mind to avoid product returns.
Provide Details Product Description
On a busy marketplace such as Lazada, it is easy to overlook the importance of product descriptions. However, customers often make decisions whether to buy your product or not based on the information they find in your product description. They might not be so eager to purchase if they do not find the details they are looking for. So, it is necessary to provide them with a complete idea about the product you are selling. The product description should be written in a way that would fulfill the expectations of the customers and their purpose of buying the products.
Use Quality Photos and Videos
High-quality photos and videos promote your products. It is more likely to garner positive attention from your customers and potential buyers. Your products would rank higher in the search result because these would catch the attention of search engines. Thus, it is a must to stay away from bad photos because it would give your customers the idea that the product you are selling is of low quality.
Take Advantage of Product Reviews
Customer feedback plays an important part in your potential customer’s buying decision. It is because these are written by individuals who have already purchased the product and experienced it themselves, so they would be able to give their honest opinion. That is why you must take advantage of your product reviews. You can highlight the positive customer feedback on your website or post these on your social media pages.
Focus on Your Packaging
When you are shipping out your products, you need to make sure these are properly packed to avoid dents and damages. Good packaging creates a good impression on your buyers, especially on first-time buyers. If your packaging meets their standard, there is a higher chance that they will buy again from you.
Business Advisor
Business Advisor is found in your left dashboard on your Seller Centre page. This is where you can check the overall performance of your store on different metrics such as revenue, visitors, buyers, orders, page views, and many more. It provides all the information needed to help you improve your business. Business Advisor also keeps you updated with your SKU-level data along with what your customers are interested in.
Unfortunately, Lazada does not tell you what your Click-Through-Rate but you can check the number of people who visited your product listing. At the top of your Business Advisor, select Product, to view your Product’s Real-Time Ranking.
If you find that there are only a few people who visited your product listings, this can be a sign that your Click-Through Rate (CTR) for that product is terrible.
Meanwhile, as you scroll horizontally through the product ranking, you can check the Conversion Rate (CVR) of each item. The higher the CVR, the better. The number of orders and buyers are also provided.
Business Advisor is your one-stop portal to understand your business performance and identify areas that you need to work on.
Goal Setting
There is only one way to eat an elephant: one bite at a time. The same thing goes in achieving your business goals, you should take it slow and steady to win the race.
Start aiming small and gradually increase your target. For instance, I set off with $1,000 as my first goal each month. Achieving my first four-digit sale is an indication that my business is progressing.
Eight (8) months into business and I hit my second goal; $5,000 sales per month. This shows that my business structure is proven effective. In addition, I earned my first five-digit income and goal which is $10,000 as I am 10 months into the business. Eventually targeting and achieving $80,000 sales per month. When you set this as your goal, you’ll actually be earning almost one million dollars in a year!
Taking things one step at a time will help you identify what’s working for you and your business. Lastly, this keeps you on track as you make progress.
Routine and Activities
To save your time, tackle the sales and customer service first. By doing so, you’re clearing these tedious tasks out of the way and making room for other things that can help you improve your business such as looking for other products to purchase and make a profit off or expanding your business and hiring people to work for you.

Aside from being a great marketplace, Lazada is a battleground where sellers (like you) are competing for sales and customers. While you can learn more about how to sell on Lazada at Lazada University, it is not a program that teaches you how to find profitable products and succeed in the Lazada marketplace. Instead, learn how to run a successful and profitable online business by checking out my Lazada course here.
Since Lazada is owned by Alibaba, there is heavy competition in China’s Imported products and most likely, you will meet sellers that offer the same product as you. This may result in a price-slashing war just to attract buyers. Instead of making a big profit, you might end up losing what you’ve put in. In addition to that, it’s difficult to get recurring customers. Buyers are given a lot of stores to shop from. You’ll never know if some sellers have greater deals than you. The only thing left to do is to create your very own sales channel. In this way, you focus on developing your business and building connections instead of competing with other sellers and compromising your price. Learn how to create a sales channel to grow your business by getting my Decisive ECommerce Course here.
I’ve learn several good stuff here. Definitely price bookmarking for revisiting.
I surprise how so much effort you set to create this sort of great informative website.
Thanks for saying that!
